Croud are hosting a stem cell donor drive at their Shrewsbury offices on Saturday 6th February from 9am – 12.30pm, on behalf of the Race Against Blood Cancer charity.  Emma Davies explains why this charity is so important to Croud.

Every 20 minutes in the UK, someone is told they have the blood cancer leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma. That’s over 70 people a day, 25,000 a year.  Someone I used to work closely with back in 2005 and who many people at Croud have worked with, was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma last year.  This person’s response to his diagnosis was to set up a charity with a group of friends.

Race against Blood Cancer is a non-profit charity and their goal is to increase both the volume and diversity of people who register as potentially life-saving donors.

A life-saving blood match depends on finding a stem cell donor of the same gender and similar ethnicity. Currently here in the UK more donors are desperately needed as 4 in 5 people do not find a match.  We need more donors.

Ew, being a donor!  That involves blood and marrow and time and stuff doesn’t it???

A simple cheek swab is all it takes and then uploading your contact information on the international register – 10 minutes in total to be a potential life saver.  Should you prove to be a match with someone 90% of the time donating stem cells involves donating blood and we all know this is pain-free!

Watch this short video to find out more about the registration process and what happens after.[/text_output][x_video_embed type=”16:9″]

How Do you Save a Life?

On Sat 6th Feb Croud Shrewsbury are opening their doors and inviting people to come and register as a stem cell donor.  There will be registration stations set up on the day with experts able to assist in the taking of cheek swabs and available to answer any questions about the donation process, as well as fund-raising activities and refreshments.

Don’t panic if you can’t get to the Shrewsbury office, you can be a life saver in your own home.  Click here to request a swab kit to be sent to your home.  Or, why not host your own donor drive!

If you are aged between 17-55 and in general good health, join the Croud and swab your cheeks!

Croud’s Race Against Cancer Donor Drive takes place on Saturday 6th February 9am-12.30pm at Croud Ltd, Suits 5&6 Observer House Abbey Lawn, Abbey Foregate Shrewsbury SY2 6BL.
