Report: 65 million US smart speaker owners, smart displays quickly gaining traction

Two separate reports from Voicebot.ai and Edison Research indicate that there are around 65 million smart speakers in the US. The average number of smart speaker per user has grown from 1.8 to 2 in 2019 – this accounts for only 23% of the US population but adoption growth is slowing. Smart speakers with displays however appear to be accelerating in adoption with plenty of room for growth at only 13%  of the population own a smart speaker display device.

Google showing image thumbnails in mobile search results snippets more often

Google appears to be displaying thumbnails within the mobile search results more often, though this is not necessarily consistent across all SERP listings and likely depends on having appropriate thumbnails within the ranking page in order for it to display.

Smartphone Now Dominant Device for Buying Online

05/03/2019

A report by Capgemini IMRG indicates that smartphone has overtaken desktop’s share of online sales in the UK – this equate to 40.4% of Q4 sales compared to desktop’s 39.7% and tablet’s 19.9%. This is also alongside increased retail browsing on smartphones, which reached 74.3% of all visits in Q4 2018.
