New in structured data: FAQ and How-to

Google has announced it will be supporting FAQ and How-to structured data. This would include displaying a new results for each type of content within Google Search and Assistant, presenting an opportunity for pages that include that type of content if marked up.

Google Assistant moves from the cloud to the phone, now 10X faster

Google is switching it’s Assistant from cloud to phone which would improve its speed and engagement, and help close the gap between Google Assistant and its competitors like Siri. This may mean users opting for an Android phone over iPhone, in addition to increased monetization of the Assistant results.

Google Search experiments with showing less relevant search results when requested

Google appears to be experimenting with displaying a message that reads “Hmm… the results for your search don’t seem very relevant.” instead of displaying results it has decided are irrelevant. This could mean that searchers are instead choosing to conduct a new search meaning those in the less relevant search results are missing out on traffic.

What we’ve learned from tracking over 280 Million online bookings

A report by SaleCycle indicates that the abandonment rate for airline booking sites is higher than the travel average. The average is currently 87.9% compared to 81% for the travel industry and 76.9% for the average overall abandonment. These rates were found to be lower between Sept and Dec which coincides with the lowest sales volume.
