Croud are proud to be supporting Severn Hospice, who provide an irreplaceable service to people living with an incurable illness, and their families and loved ones. They offer both medical care in the home and palliative care via a residential stay in one of their hospices in Shropshire. The hospice relies entirely on fundraising to keep providing this type of invaluable care. Hence, events like the annual Dragon Boat Race are essential in ensuring their continued existence.
Here are a few words from Hannah Gamston, the fundraising officer.
“For over a decade our Dragon Boat Festival has been a popular addition to our calendar of events, with thousands of people enjoying a great day out in the beautiful surroundings each year. It’s a fun-filled day for all involved but there is a serious side to the event, helping us raise much-needed funds to enable our caring teams to be there for the next person who needs our help.
As an independent charity, we have to raise over two-thirds of our running costs each year which equates to £7.11 million. By taking part in events like our Dragon Boat Festival, and raising sponsorship money, you are directly contributing to the vital services we provide across Shropshire and Mid Wales helping us be there when it matters most for people living with incurable illnesses and those who love them.
We are all really looking forward to welcoming the teams at this year’s event, which is set to be the biggest to date. On behalf of our patients and everyone at Severn Hospice thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you all on race day.”

Croud are therefore glad to say we are taking part in the Severn Hospice Dragon Boat Race in Shrewsbury on 9th July 2017. The annual boat race offers a unique opportunity to race 40ft Dragon boats along the River Severn in Shrewsbury, as teams compete for the title of Dragon Boat Champions.
Many teams from across the region will enjoy a fun-filled day on the river while raising money to support the Severn Hospice’s vital work.
Starting from the Shrewsbury School Boat Club, each team will compete in two heats and those with the quickest times will go through to the semi-finals before six teams battle it out in the grand final to be crowned the Dragon Boat Champions 2017.
Last year, the event raised over £46,000 for the hospice, and we’d love for this year to be even more successful! All of the money raised will go directly to providing care for local people and their families when they need it most. Croud took part in the event last year, and as well as being an immensely enjoyable day in the community, we were able to raise £1,379.94.
