SEO Intern: Delving Into The World Of SEO

On my first day I entered those big orange gates with butterflies in my stomach not knowing what to expect. I was immediately put at ease as I met the loveliest, most welcoming and talented group of people.

Kicking off with the weekly SEO team meeting. I set my default to smile and nod whilst everyone went through the agenda for the week client by client, outlining the progress of each. What struck me immediately was how client centric, organised and focussed the team was… Even if I did struggle to understand half the things they were saying…predominantly all the acronyms! They produced charts for each client and discussed their strategy for the week ahead; everyone really did have their finger on the pulse.

I was quickly welcomed into the Croud family by the mother goose, Pin. The founder, Luke even took the time to introduce the company and discuss the future of Croud.

Having dabbled in the world of SEO before, I was aware that fresh content can do wonders for your webpage, this teamed with a flare of creativity makes for a winning combination. In the last two weeks, my knowledge of content has been hugely broadened and I have learnt so much about creating great, fresh, new content on-page and off-page.

Initially, I was put to the task of creating a Pinterest board for one of our clients. By researching into what competitors were doing and looking at their followers I created demographically targeted boards which had links back to their website, blog, YouTube and Google+ pages. I ensured that the boards linked into their prize draws, blogs and their strategy for the upcoming few months. In the first week I also learnt about their outreach strategy for clients, different social media competitions, how to conduct industry research and how to create relevant blog posts.

One of the things I most enjoyed in the first week has to be the ‘Beers and Ideas’ session… not just because of the beers but also loved shooting around ideas for different clients on how we could create a social media buzz with hashtags, competitions and all the trimmings.

Since then I have also learnt more about WordPress, different social media campaigns and PPC; I was fortunate enough to be taken up to their lovely and quaint Shrewsbury office where I met their PPC team and dove into the waters of Google Adwords. Everyone was very generous with their time and taught me about audience targeting, different ad types, budgeting and also discussed some of the clients they were working on.

Being able to dip my toes into different areas of work means I could quickly get a sense of how the SEO team works together with different parts of the agency and also how they manage relationships with their clients. The learning process over the last two weeks has been intense at times, but everyone around has been very supportive and keen to get me involved with various clients and pieces of work. I’m also keen to learn more about the different programs they use like Pulsar, BrightEdge, Google Analytics and also their internal programs.

From the last fortnight interning, it is very apparent how invested in people they are at Croud! Growth and learning is encouraged; I thoroughly enjoyed the ‘lunch time learning’ which happens fortnightly where a member of the team teaches everyone something new.

I’m looking forward to learning everything I can from the talented SEO team and everyone at Croud in the next few months and I’m happy that I’m under the wing of Felice, our strategy manager who is by far the most on the ball person I have ever met.
