I started day one in the office trying to shake off my “studenty” behaviour and adopting a more professional attitude. With that, I began to scratch the surface of PPC. A month later, I gained enough knowledge to convince myself that I am well established in the working world. However, today I mistook ‘OOO’ for a spelling mistake and flagged it with my colleague, only to learn that it’s an acronym for ‘Out Of Office’ and proved to the rest of the team that (as much as I would like to reject the label), I am still a ‘freshie’.
It has been a great rollercoaster-of-a-month at Croud and (as I write this blog), I cannot help but get excited about what is yet to come!
Whether one measures business growth by the increased number of valued clients, or by a significantly large wave of new employees to meet business demands, Croud meets all criteria to be one of the fastest growing independent search and display agencies in the UK. This makes it a really exciting time to join Croud as there is much going on, with plenty of opportunities to make a difference- but also to develop. So far, I have gone through a steep learning curve in order to make myself an asset for my team, and help meet deadlines for our clients even more efficiently.
Saying this, even to someone who has just joined the company, the growth of Croud comes as no surprise. Croud, internally, has a unique working culture. The company’s belief that “there is no such thing as a great agency, just great people in agencies” is really applied on a daily basis within the work culture- I was given invaluable support from my team and managers including weekly one to one meetings, endless shadowing sessions, team meetings, and even one or two work socials after a long week of work!
About scratching the surface of PPC
Unlike the situation that some new graduates find themselves in once they begin their working life, I have definitely not been left to file papers or carry out tasks just to keep me busy. On the other hand, I have most certainly not been left drumming my fingers! From the first week, I have been trusted to carry out tasks that affect the business both directly or indirectly.
A month in to work, I have therefore learnt a lot about Pay-Per-Click advertising, especially given my previous basic knowledge of this area of marketing. I have gained new skills in managing client accounts, using Adwords, applying complex formulas on Excel, report writing, data analysis, and using our unique Croud Control system, to name a few. However, on the other hand, I am aware of the fact that I am still scratching the surface of PPC. For example, I am starting to understand the scale of the work that goes behind simply ensuring our client’s creatives appear on top of Google and other SERPs!
Saying this, I initially thought that there will come a point where I will have enough experience of PPC, such that I would not be learning something new (literally) on a daily basis. However, I have quickly come to realise that PPC is an area of marketing that is never static. To keep one’s position on the market (let alone move beyond it) there needs to be constant learning of new skills, and constant adaption to new concepts and technology surrounding online advertising- a healthy working environment!
About my colleagues
Joining Croud has made me realise the importance of getting along with my colleagues at work. Unlike part-time work, working full-time means one spends most of their week with the people they work with. On this basis, perhaps one of the most valuable blessings of kick-starting my career in PPC has been the aid of my colleagues at every step along the way. Naturally, I have had a lot of questions to ask, and at every point there was a colleague to help answer them thoroughly with every selfless intention of aiding my learning (even when they had tight deadlines to meet).
Therefore, it seems fit here to take the last bit of this blog to thank the International team, but also the larger Shrewsbury office for giving me such a warm welcome to Croud. I have enjoyed every minute in the office- not to mention the Out Of Office (OOO!) socials that have not been short of entertaining to say the least![/text_output][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][visibility type=”hidden-desktop”][gap size=”20px”][/visibility][vc_widget_sidebar sidebar_id=”ups-sidebar-2″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
