Releasing gtrends.app – A Google Trends Connector for Data Studio

Analysts can now integrate Google Trends data into Data Studio via StrateqiQ’s app, allowing data to be pulled straight into reports.

Google AMP URLs not letting searchers click through to main site

There appears to be have been another Google bug that may have impacted search traffic, this time with AMP and not letting users click the main cache URL through to the website. It appears to have started on the 11th June but was resolved the following morning – bear in mind for any analytics and metrics around this date.

Google June 2019 core update finished rolling out on June 8

Google has now completed its roll-out of the core update on June 8th, which started on June 3rd. Early data suggest the tabloid site Daily Mail Online and news site CCN took a large hit – the SEO Director of the Daily Mail Online even posted in the Google forums for help.

Google Search Console performance overview report now shows 90 days of data

Google has changed the default date range of the “Search results” and “Discover” bar charts from 28 days to 90 days of data in the Performance Report overview section in Search Console.

Experts tout voice search as study ties answers to top 3 organic results

SEM Rush unveiled its voice search study at SMX Advanced which suggests that the key to voice search success is high SERP positions, site speed, content readability and high quality backlinks. They found that the optimal length for a paragraph aimed at ranking in voice was around 42 words and understandable to a 15 year old, in addition 36% of voice results did not use Schema, though that does indicate it was used in the majority.

Google search update aims to show more diverse results from different domain names

Google announced that it was releasing another update (unrelated to the core update started on June 3rd), this time focusing on creating more site diversity in the SERPs i.e. reducing the instances of multiple listings from the same website displaying for the same query.

Retail Sales Show ‘Biggest Decline On Record’

The latest report from the British Retail Consortium shows the high street suffered their biggest drop in 25 years this May, seeing a 3% decline compared to 2018. Non-food online sale grew by just 1.5% YoY in May, however in May 2018 this grew 11.5% YoY showing a large slow down in online sales.

The Retail Shopper’s Journey to Loyalty

According to a report by Yes Marketing, 3% of consumers will pay more to buy from a retailed they’re loyal to – loyalty was found to be generated by high quality/value products by 41% of consumers, whilst 35% ranked price as the highest reason. Free delivery was found to perform well in driving new customers, but less so when generating long term loyalty (only 3% ranked it as a top loyalty driver).
