Early data around the Google June 2019 core update shows some winners, losers

Google released a core algorithm update on 3rd June 2019 which initial data is revealing a number of winners and losers; the Gambling niche was hit hard, as was the UK’s Daily Mail – Finance, Health and Travel niches also saw many fluctuations in top positions, with Retail appearing to see the least, though it’s still early days.

Google Maps adds dish-covery to the menu

Google has added “popular dishes” to restaurant listings in Google Maps, which is populated by machine learning matching the name of the dish and the image provided by users in the reviews.

A report by Ofcom (the UK’s independent media regulator) found that 35% of total time spent online in the UK is on sites owned by Google or Facebook, with an average of 3 hours and 15 minutes spent online each day – children and young adults spend more time online than watching TV. YouTube visits account for 27 minutes per day and a similar 23 minutes on Facebook.
