Despite all and any efforts to avoid them, 404 errors and their respective pages are a necessary evil. Ideally, we’d never have one, every click would result in the desired content magically appearing without ever breaking the user journey. Unfortunately, whatever we do, 404 errors will always be part of the user experience.
But that doesn’t mean they can’t add some value to your visitors. Taking a creative approach to dealing with errors can result in some highly engaging and usable content that adds to the customer experience rather than breaking it.
I’ve compiled together some of my favourite creative 404 error pages that really show how brands pay attention to the detail of their customer’s experience and offer a dash of entertainment instead of just plain old frustration.
